‘American Idol’ Reveals Seven Top 24 Contenders
“American Idol” revealed seven of their Top 24 contestants on Tuesday night.
Michael Lynche, AKA Big Mike, was first to learn of the judges’ positive decision, which Simon Cowell said was “unanimous.”
The 26-year-old personal trainer became a standout in early episodes of Season 9 not only for his powerful voice, but because his wife gave birth to the couple’s first child (on the opposite coast) while he was handling Hollywood Week.
“I’m here to do this for my family,” the chirpy chap told the “Idol” cameras.
Also getting a pass was Didi Benami, a knitted cap-wearing blonde who performed a song at Hollywood Week written by judge Kara DioGuardi. Didi also caught “Idol’s” attention for her raw audition, where she performed for her best friend Rebecca, a longtime supporter and songwriter, who passed away.
Katelyn Epperly, the curly haired blonde who revealed her parents were divorcing was also sent through as was Casey James, a long-haired blond gent, who caused Kara to blush. In fact, after giving him the news he was being sent through to the Top 24, Kara gave him a hug and lifted up her left leg as she embraced the 20-something singer.
Aaron Kelly, a soulful 16-year-old high school student who impressed Randy, was sent through.
“I’m on ‘American Idol.’ It blows my mind,” he told the “Idol” cameras after learning the news.
Laid-back rocker Lee Dewyze managed to overcome some shaky performances to win a ticket to the Top 24.
“Welcome dude, welcome,” Randy said after Kara revealed the judges only changed their mind about Lee moments before delivering what turned out to be good news.
Finally, Todrick Hall, a former co-star of “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino in “The Color Purple,” was told he too received a ticket.
“Yes,” Kara said simply.
On Wednesday’s episode, “Idol” will reveal the remaining 17 contenders who will round out the Top 24 group.
